Surprising Mom Fact
One mom did the math on time spent breastfeeding:
“I breastfed Lilly for 1 year. (conservatively) I have fed her from my body 5,475 times, which means (conservatively) I have spent 1,825 hours holding her to my breast.
Best Natural and Non-toxic Nursery Glider: DaVinci Upholstered Swivel Glider
DaVinci’s point of difference:
Each nursery glider is tested for over 10,000 chemicals. They offer a state-of-the-art Greenguard Gold certificate which guarantees a non-toxic nursery chair.
DaVinci believes the best nursery glider is the one that improves air quality and creates a healthy indoor environment for your children to play and grow in.
This state-of-the-art baby glider allows a 360-degree swivel motion. This means you can rock your baby to sleep in whichever motion is most comfortable.
The fabric is soft, durable, and easy-to-clean. And let’s be honest – the easier it is to clean up mess, the easier your life becomes, right?
Lumbar pain during pregnancy and while feeding can be so annoying which is why I love that DaVinci includes a bonus ottoman and lumbar cushion. Hello comfort!
|Non-toxic guarantee||100% polyester and could irritate some moms with extreme sensitivity|
|360-degree swivel motion||Position can feel a little too high for some|
|bonus ottoman and lumbar cushion|
|Stylish, modern grey with cream piping|
I love the way this swivel glider looks. It matches my nursery color palette perfectly. Plus, the fact that it’s completely free of chemical flame retardants and all other nasties really put my mind at ease.
I find it difficult to fall asleep and I fell asleep with ease in this nursery chair. I also liked that the ottoman didn’t glide. It gave me the leverage I needed to rock bub (and me) to sleep. Also makes a great place for washing.
Best Compact Rocking Chair: Delta Children Lancaster Rocking Chair
I bought this chair because it fits in a small nursery. It does the job but there’s no bells and whistles. It’s great for a cheaper and more affordable rocking chair option.
It’s easy to assemble which I appreciated. Some of my friends also purchased this rocking chair and they mentioned that there are slides on their carpet. I didn’t notice this but I’m a lot heavier than my friends so perhaps it’s more sturdy for me.
During my second pregnancy, I was quite sick so I specifically chose a chair with only a back and forth motion. Without the 360 motion, I definitely felt less queasy. So if you’re looking for a rocking motion rather than a swivel motion, this could be a good choice for you. This chair sits a bit low which can make it difficult to get in and out of while holding your bub.
|Compact design||No matching ottoman available|
|Durable wood rocking base||Replacement parts can be expensive|
|Quality coil spring cushion support|
|Live Smart fabric – easy to clean|
Something to think about:
I didn’t even think about the back of the chair when I ordered this product. When I sit in this rocking chair, it sits right below my neck. If you’re looking for something with neck support this is not for you.
I liked this product because I like to support family-run businesses, like Delta.
Best Nursery Glider for Twins: Baby Relax Double Rocker Chair
I wish every parent of twins knew about this beauty of a rocker chair. I bought this double rocker chair right after having my twins. It was easy to assemble (I put it together in under 30 minutes while I was pregnant). It still gets used for ‘story time’ with our eldest and the twins to this day – which is really nice to have that cozy space for them.
It’s the perfect rocking chair for our nursery. It’s super easy for us both to sit with a baby on our laps, or with the girls on either side.
It’s soft and comfortable for nursing and rocks nicely on the hard wood and the rug we have it on.
It doesn’t rock as much as a traditional rocker so if you’re looking for more movement, this might not be an ideal choice.
|1.5 times width of standard rockers||Doesn’t rock as much as traditional rocker|
|Smooth rocking motion||Added Ottoman costs extra|
|Solid wood feet|
|High quality, durable material|
|Comfortable padded cushions|
I would buy this chair again in a heartbeat. it’s a beautiful addition to our nursery and looks classy with its contrasting piping edges.
It’s a bit firm but I like it that way – it helps getting up with twins rather than sinking and sagging into the chair. Gives me the extra boost I need to stand from nursing.
By the way, the picture makes the chair look short, but while sitting, I can lean my head back and it rests nicely on the seatback.
Best multipurpose nursery rocking chair: Giantex Rocking Chair
Ahhh. Every time I go to work, I look forward to coming home to a massage on demand. This rocking chair was a godsend. It seriously saved my lower back from aches and pains during feeding and nursing.
It’s designed with 4 massaging motors. It has 2 different massaging zones, 8 different massaging modes, plus adjustable time, and intensity. This gives you the ultimate massage experience in the comfort of your own home.
If you’re the type of person who loves a strong massage to relax, then this might be the best nursery rocking chair for you and bub.
The side pocket was a bonus for all the baby books I was reading. Okay, most times it was gossip magazines but you get my drift.
It’s engineered with a special elastic sponge to increase comfort and breathable cloth so you don’t get too hot while nursing or feeding. I did notice the chair was firmer than expected so if you like a chair to sink into, this might not be the best choice for you.
|2 different massaging zones||Massage setting can be noisy|
|Side pocket for storage||The chair is too firm for some|
|8 different massaging modes|
|Sturdy, solid plywood base|
|Tufted feet pads protect your floor|
Personally, I found this to be the best nursery rocking chair for me because I had such strong lower back pains. It’s still firm to sit on without the massage function.
It feels strong and sturdy and made from quality materials. I also like that I never have to worry about marking my floor. The tufted rocking base makes sure there are no marks on my nice timber floors.
Best Value Nursery Glider: Windsor Glider
When I needed a second chair for breastfeeding, I didn’t want to spend a ridiculous amount of money. This glider is worth every cent.
It’s smaller than I thought, but that works for our small apartment. It’s made from durable wood, metal and heavy-duty fabric on the upholstery.
My husband and dad (both well over 200 pounds) use it daily, as do my daughter and I. The chair still rocks smoothly and has held up remarkably well over the years.
It’s robust and lasts, but it doesn’t get A+ for comfort. It has minimal support and is slightly awkward to sit in. I am 5′ 2″ and I feel like my knees are bent too much, I often curl my feet under because it is an awkward angle.
My friend tried it out and at 5’7” she was able to lay her head back on the top of the chair. So it’s good to know it works for tall people too. If you’re a taller mom, this may be a good option for those late-night feeds.
The seat of the chair is either at exactly the same height or slightly lower, and it feels slightly lower than the ottoman. I really don’t like this because it causes my knees to hyperextended if I use the ottoman.
Overall it is worth the price, but you get what you pay for and it is not as comfy, lacks cushion and is an awkward angle.
|Affordable||The snaps are a bit difficult to assemble|
|Generous seating room||Can make a squeaking noise after frequent use|
|Solid wood frame for stability|
|Enclosed metal bearings for smooth gliding|
|Removable cover for easy cleaning|
I absolutely love this nursery glider. Mine did start squeaking, which for me is no issue because my kid sleeps through anything, but might be a problem for mothers with light sleeping babies.
I hear you asking, Why is Nursery Seating Necessary?
Every new parent’s goal is to get their newborn baby sleeping as soon as possible. It’s important that mum and bub quickly settle into a sleeping and breastfeeding routine that keeps the household calm and settled.
Sometimes, try as you might, the tried-and-true tactics like swaddling, rocking, bouncing, swaying doesn’t work. Continually trying to get babies to sleep by rocking for hours on end can get extremely exhausting for new parents so it’s helpful to have a comfortable chair. Being supported by a nursery chair can reduce stress and fatigue on new moms, dads, and carers.
“For many infants, rocking—or using another kind of rhythmic movement—works as a natural sleep aid, since it reminds them of being inside their mother’s body.”
So, what is the best chair for a nursery?
The best chair for your nursery is the one that you like best and works best for you and your baby.
When purchasing a nursery chair, consider these questions and qualities.
- Are you using the chair for pregnancy, feeding, nursing or all of these stages?
- How much nursery room do you have?
- Is your baby room large enough to accommodate a swinging nursery chair and matching ottoman?
- What type of rocking motion do you want? Some chairs offer forward and back rocking whereas some chairs offer a 360 swaying motion
- Do you have your heart set on a particular color or material?
- How much padding do you like? Do you like firm or extra soft padding comfort?
- The height of the chair is important. Make sure you have enough height to rest your head for those late-night feeding sessions.
- Are you interested in additional features? Some nursery rockers offer bonus matching ottomans, lumbar support and cushions, and massage functions.
- Are you planning to assemble the chair by yourself or will you have assistance?
- Quality is important. You want a nursery glider that’s going to go the distance and be around for all your pregnancies and children. It’s also useful to use your old chairs for storytime with your older children.

How to find the most comfortable nursery glider
The most comfortable nursery gliders are the ones that best support you and your baby.
Think about your height and the height of the nursery glider. Some chairs are lower than others. This can make it more difficult to get in and out of.
Some nursery gliders have more supportive armrests. This can increase comfort significantly but can also cause discomfort if they’re at the wrong height. Consider the measurements carefully before going all out on an expensive nursery glider.
If you’re a tall woman or have a tall partner, it’s also worth considering the height of the back of the chair. There’s nothing worse than leaning back and discovering the nursery chair is too short.to contents ↑
Is a feeding chair necessary?
Honestly, a feeding chair is not absolutely necessary. It’s a ‘nice-to-have’ rather than a ‘must-have’. But if you’re a person who tires easily then a feeding chair might be a good option to rest your arms and your back. A feeding chair allows you to move your baby into the most comfortable position for you both and makes it easier to hold that position to feed in for the duration of a feed.
How does a glider rocker work?
A glider (also known as platform rocker) is a type of chair that moves like a swing seat. The chair simulates a rocking-chair motion as it swings back and forth. Gliders are popular as a nursery furnishing for assisting parents in feeding newborn babies. Because pinch points are moved away from the floor, a glider is marginally safer for pets and toddlers.
What’s the difference between a glider and a rocker?
The main difference between a glider and a rocking chair is their movement. A glider tends to offer a smoother gliding/swaying motion whereas a rocking chair has arched legs which often creates greater movement.
A glider is also different to a rocker in that it typically has higher and more supportive arms. This can be helpful to sooth your tired arms from the weight of your baby. Some babies can also be quite sensitive to noise so it’s helpful to have a quiet glider.
The bottom line:
The best nursery glider is the one that helps cut a 2 am cry fest in its tracks. Ask your friends, read the reviews, and think about what you want before rushing out to buy the latest nursery chair.
That being said, I found the best nursery rocker for my child’s room was the one that gave me the most comfort while nursing, breast-feeding my infant and the one that settled bub the fastest.
For me, I couldn’t go past the DaVinci Upholstered Swivel Glider. As well as being a stylish addition to my new bub’s room, it was just so comfortable. I fell asleep many a time while late-night feeding and it’s quality has stood the test of time – not to mention many spills, voms, and baby mess that’s cleaned up quickly.
Honestly, you can’t go wrong with DaVinci. It’s a brand that’s known for its quality and robust design. But, do your own due diligence and pick your favorite you think will be best for you.
